My Endearing Appalachia

Pepperoni Rolls, Twizzlers and Hot Chocolate
Just thinking… I would love to see a football game in person right now. Who else---? The mountain air is refreshing. It’s always an enjoyable experience. Last fall, besides the ball game, I enjoyed a heartwarming experience. So, I wrote: WV Pepperoni rolls, chili fries, hot chocolate and Raspberry Twizzlers. Saturday football. We wore so many layers of clothing to stay warm, we could have covered half the fans on our bleacher, which by the way was on the 34th row, high up tow

Electric Cake Mixer and Classic Car Floorboard Bolt
Crossed telephone lines. One summer night. Listening to the radio as the deejay took requests and dedications for songs --- That was over sixty years ago! And there’s more. So much more to the story than a phone call. Step back for a few moments with me if you will, to the 60s and you can see and hear history being made... Our story begins from a phone call in the house on the side of the mountain. There wasn’t even a rotary dial on the phone I was using, in fact, there were

Tribute to Momma
Enjoying my morning coffee, while stirring nostalgia, as I think about my Momma setting the aluminum percolator with glass insert on the lid, on the coal fired cookstove. I was allowed to drink coffee from an early age and glad my Momma allowed it. There were occasions when I visited her in my adulthood that she would A percolator that sat on the coal-fired stove during my childhood years. prepare my coffee for me as soon as I awoke. What a blessing to hear the tapping of t

When Seasons Change...
The aroma of Banana nut bread has filled my kitchen and mingled with the Black Silk brew of Folgers. An intense reminder of the changing season. Fall has arrived and brought vivid reminders of the beauty that accompanies the results that will be on display. Making molasses and apple butter and gathering pumpkins will be offered. I began clearing the veggie patch of tomato and pepper plants and bean vines, each of them have made beautiful contributions to my meals this year an

From a Diamond to a Pearl and a 40-cent coupon
. October. A fall morning. And I was in my kitchen before six o’clock preparing space on the counter to roll out fried pie dough. Usually there are various kinds of randomly placed items to get out of the way…pens, note pad, sticky notes, the bread box. In the process there was an overlooked coupon that I had not placed in my billfold. I picked that up, checked the expiration date which was still good. So got the billfold out, and before placing the coupon behind the coup
